Demand for electricity in downtown Vancouver is expected to grow by 75% over the next 30 years.

BC Hydro’s innovative proposal is to bury new substations underground and maintain the use of land for citizens. Underground substations are not an everyday topic and when you add the concept of burying them under schools or parks, you get an even greater public engagement challenge.

Branding the process, not the product

BC Hydro asked us help them better facilitate a public discussion about this proposal and in partnership with Kirk&Co, we developed Seed. By creating the Seed brand, we were able to give the engagement process a memorable name and overarching storyline that improved engagement.

Onsite communications

Communications were developed for community open houses as well as BC Hydro’s downtown Vancouver location. Large scale window graphics and a lobby installation were designed to tell the SEED story and engage staff in this innovative concept for the future.

Jane and her team at Cause & Affect provided full-service marketing and communications support, delivering two critical BC Hydro projects within an exceptionally short timeline. Their professionalism and overall client service resulted in an easy collaboration with multiple BC Hydro representatives. I found them agile and willing to adapt to new objectives and changing deadlines, while also realistic and honest about the impacts. Their vision and strategic guidance have been invaluable to delivering these projects.
